Semi success for U19s

Mo Marley’s U19s became the second England team to reach a UEFA European Championship Final this year, when they beat Switzerland 3-0 in their semi-final in Belarus.

Toni Duggan provided the catalyst for the emphatic victory when she broke the deadlock on 28 minutes, while Issy Christiansen doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Having beaten Germany and the hosts in the group stages to reach the semi-final, Switzerland had proven they could not be taken lightly, and Marley’s Young Lions continued to press in the second half in an attempt to put the tie beyond doubt.

Their persistence paid off 10 minutes after the restart when Duggan bagged her second of the game and England’s third.

At 3-0 England were comfortably in the box seat and despite the best efforts of the Swiss, the Young Lions retained their advantage to the final whistle.

The victory sent the U19s to their second Championship Final in three years and follows on from the men’s Under-21s team, who reached their respective Final in June.

The U19s will now meet Sweden in the Final on Saturday 25 July. This match will be broadcast live on Eurosport.
