This weekend sees the first league in North Riding to take up the Respect Programme.
This weekend sees the launch of another women's league to become an official Respect league, with the North Riding Women's Football League signed up to the programme. The games between Huntingdon and Oak United, Poppleton and York City, and Guisborough and Scarborough on Sunday will be the first to feature and all matches will utilise the effective Respect barriers and follow the codes of conduct for players, coaches, referees and spectators.
After the national launch in August at The FA Community Shield, leagues up and down the country signed up to the programme and the North Riding Women’s Football League is the first women’s league to have signed up in the area.
The FA’s Respect programme aims to improve the standards of behaviour across the professional and grassroots game, reducing the drop-out of referees and the number of abandoned matches and reintroducing the FUN into football. It is a long term commitment by The FA, working in partnership with The Premier League, The Football League, The County FAs, The PFA, LMA and PGMO.
The North Riding County FA is now aiming to get all registered leagues signed up to the Respect programme and there will be incentives in place for clubs in leagues who sign up, such as free start-up kits with a Respect captain’s armband.
