Leeds United completed a comfortable 2-0 victory over League One rivals Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup First Round Proper at Boundary Park.
Mike Grella’s stoppage time goal sealed Leeds’ win after Jonathan Howson had earlier opened the scoring nine minutes before half-time.
Both sides found it difficult to create chances in difficult playing conditions, but eventually it was the League One pacesetters who deservedly prevailed.
Leeds have enjoyed a superb opening to their League One campaign and sit top the table, having lost just once to date this season. Simon Grayson’s side were looking extend their fine form into this season’s FA Cup but came up against an Oldham side with cup ambitions of their own.
But after a scrappy opening it was Leeds who struck first. Howson’s rasping 20-yarder beat debutant Daryl Flahavan nine minutes before half-time.
Casper Ankergren made several impressive stops as Oldham pushed forward after the restart.
But the Latics were unable to make the most of their chances and Grella converted four minutes into stoppage time following good work from substitute Aidan White.
