BIO

The FA Crest

Ross is a robust and clever player, who seems to have that precious habit of arriving in the opposition box with perfect timing to both score and set up goals himself.

Barkley's rise through the England ranks saw him feature for both the U16s and U17s, where he always offered coaches a wholehearted and effective performance through the centre and this was perfectly illustrated in the European U17 Championships of 2010 when the Everton youngster was an important member of John Peacock's team in Liechtenstein.

He continued that development into the U19s age group, when his debut performance against Slovakia saw him set-up the opening goal of the game with one of those aforementioned timely breaks forward and then awareness of his team-mates to slip a pass to Michael Ngoo. Call-ups and caps with the U21s have also followed.

Barkley was then part of the U19s squad which reached the semi-final of the European Championship and qualified for the U20s World Cup in the process.

After a 2012-13 campaign which saw him have loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United before returning to Everton to feature in the Premier League, he was picked by U20s Head Coach Peter Taylor for the World Cup in Turkey during June 2013.

A senior call-up came just a few months later and Barkley was part of Roy Hodgson’s squad to travel to the World Cup in Brazil, where he featured in the final group game against Costa Rica.
