Luke Berry's brace for Cambridge shakes up Bury

Luke Berry bagged a brace to send Conference Premier leaders Cambridge United into the Second Round of The FA Cup with Budweiser at the expense of League Two Bury.

The U's midfielder had seen his 61st-minute opener cancelled out by Shaun Harrard two minutes later, but popped up with time running out to net the winner and secure a mouth-watering TV meeting with Sheffield United.

The two sides had been waiting almost a month to see who would progress to the next stage after a water-logged pitch meant their initial tie at Gigg Lane was postponed back on 9 November.

Then, when the side's drew 0-0 in the rearranged fixture ten days later, a replay was required.

There was nothing separating them after a tight first half at the Abbey Stadium, although hosts Cambridge enjoyed the better chances. They just could not muster a breakthrough despite eight shots on target in the first 45 minutes.

The non-League outfit finally made their pressure pay just after the hour when Berry, teed up by Harrison Dunk, finished past Brian Jensen for his first.

But their lead was short-lived, with Bury hitting back within two minutes when Shaun Harrad nodded home Andy Procter's cross.

However, Cambridge were not to be denied, with Berry finally putting this tie to bed with the winning goal less than four minutes from time.

The Cambridge-born midfielder rose highest in the box to head Richard Tait's cross into the net, making it 2-1.

And they held onto their lead to set up a lucrative clash with League One Blades back at Abbey Stadium home on Sunday 8 December, a game which will be live on BT Sport.
