Chloe Kelly wheels away after scoring against Portugal at the Euros

Chloe Kelly thanked England’s fans after helping the U17s reach the semi-final of the European Championship.

The Arsenal forward netted the fourth goal as Lois Fidler’s side eased to a 6-1 win over Portugal on Monday to secure a spot in the knockout stages.

England were cheered on by 1,900 fans at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, while over 2,000 people came to their opening two group games, against Italy and Austria.

They are now preparing to face Spain in the last four on Thursday.

Kelly said: "The crowds have been great.

"It’s amazing knowing they’re all behind us and we want to win for them as much as for ourselves.

"The noise has taken a bit of getting used to because sometimes we can’t hear each other on the pitch, but it’s good. It’s great knowing everyone is behind us and you want to perform for them.

"And it’s important to keep raising the awareness of women’s football. We know there are younger girls out there wanting to wear the shirt one day and they are looking up to us."

Kelly pounced in the 47th minute to restore England’s three-goal advantage after Evie Clarke’s effort was parried by Portuguese goalkeeper Catarina Barradas.

And the 15-year-old, who now has two international goals to her name, said she was pleased to have had a hand in a dominant Three Lions display.

She added: "It was amazing. That scoreline shows that we can do what we’ve been working on in training all these months.

"And I’m delighted I scored in this game – I’d been waiting a while for that.

"Everyone’s in a great mood but we’ve got our game heads on for Spain. We’ve still got a job to do."
