Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler believes his team's defeat in the 2008 FA Vase semi-final propelled his side to winning the trophy three years in a row.
The Tyneside based club won the FA Vase in 2009, 2010 and 2011 to add to their triumph in 2002, making them one of the most successful non-League clubs.
Chandler said: "Before we won the Vase we were beaten in the semi-final.
"We took that pain and used it as motivation for the next year.
"The second and third year, well that shouldn't happen really, but we had the new nucleus of the team the first year and everything just fitted very nicely.
"We had the hunger from the loss in the semi-final, we added a couple of players each year and it just worked."
His side welcome the winners from two seasons ago, Dunston UTS, on Saturday and they have a renewed desire to reach Wembley after missing out for the past two seasons.
"The hunger is back," he said. "The two years that we have not been there, we maybe had a decent enough team to progress a bit further than we did.
"The squad that I have now is about 20 or 30 per cent of the players that reached Wembley. Most of them are new and they all want to get there."
Part-time manager Chandler who works for Ascarii, providing counties with FA packages on The Cloud, has a secret weapon in the shape of a certain Ameobi.
Not Newcastle stars Shola or Sammy, but their middle brother Tomi. However, they will need to progress to the second round if he is to have a say in the competition.
Chandler said: "He was all set to play for us at the weekend but he's got a trial over in South Africa.
"He came back from playing in Finland and was ready to start, but his trial lasts for ten days and he won't make it back for Saturday."
Ameobi has not played in any of Whitley's previous finals at Wembley but Chandler knows he has all the attributes to help propel his side to a fifth FA Vase triumph.
"He's fantastic and has got everything you could want in a player. He's got the pace, he's got the height, he scores goals like Shola does. He's pretty much a perfect player."
