Gateshead booked their place in the Second Round Proper of The FA Youth Cup with a pulsating 5-4 win on penalties at Tranmere Rovers on Monday night.
The two sides had played out an enthralling 4-4 draw during 120 minutes of football, leaving Dean Briggs to strike the decisive penalty after Liam Davies missed his spot-kick.
Briggs opened the scoring for the visitors early on before Connor Lowes put Gateshead 2-0 up shortly after the hour-mark.
Tranmere turned things around following the introduction of substitute San Ilesanmi, who struck twice in quick succession before teeing up Mitch Duggan for what appeared to be the winner.
But Gateshead levelled in the dying seconds, forcing extra-time.
Davies put Tranmere back in front before Briggs forced a penalty shoot-out with virtually the last kick of the match.
Fleetwood Town also endured the agony of defeat on penalties as Danny Vile's missed spot-kick handed a 7-6 victory to Rotherham United following a 1-1 draw.
Kim Willoughby netted for the visitors before Michael Williamson equalised with a free-kick.
Wolves' young charges shone under the watchful gaze of first-team head coach Kenny Jackett as they produced a clinical display to see off Burton Albion 5-0.
Ibrahim Keita bagged a brace in the first half, while Bradley Reid did the same in the second, with substitute Regan Upton sealing the win in the 89th minute.
Goals from Jack Mace and Oneil Odofin fired Torquay United to a 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers, while Kaimen Anderson and Sam Molyneux helped Shrewsbury Town come from behind to win by the same scoreline at Histon.
A Jon Nouble double and a further strike from Montana Stewart helped Dagenham & Redbridge ease their way past Bury Town, while Chad Douglas struck an extra-time winner for Bristol Rovers at Camberley Town.
And Crawley Town also progressed to the next phase following a 5-0 thumping of Woodbridge Town.
Dan Hector, two-goal Harry Anderson, Scott Melville and substitute Tope Fowodu all got themselves on the scoresheet.
