Four-time FA Cup winners Wolverhampton Wanderers are out of this year’s competition after slipping to a 2-1 reverse at home to Oldham Athletic in a First Round Proper Replay on Tuesday.
Goals from Danny Philliskirk and Adam Rooney propelled the visitors to the win, although Leigh Griffiths pulled one back in stoppage-time.
York City and Bristol Rovers produced another exciting encounter as the West Country side edged a five-goal thriller to advance to the Second Round.
The two sides had played out a pulsating 3-3 draw during their initial meeting and Rovers were keen to avoid a similar result as they raced into a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to strikes from John-Joe O’Toole and Oliver Norburn.
Chris Beardsley appeared to put the tie beyond doubt within five minutes of the restart with a neat left-footed strike.
However, Wes Fletcher reduced the deficit in the 70th minute from the penalty spot before netting a 35-yard stunner a minute later to haul York back into the tie.
But Bristol held firm to see out the remainder off the match and book their place in the next phase.
League Two Wycombe Wanderers shocked Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road to claim a 2-0 replay win.
Steve Craig’s 50th-minute penalty, which was awarded after he was felled by goalkeeper Ben Garratt, put Wycombe in front before Gary Doherty made sure of the result with a close-range finish.
Clayton McDonald clinched a Humber derby win for Grimsby as they saw off Scunthorpe 2-1 at Glanford Park.
Grimsby’s Lenell John-Lewis opened the scoring early on, but Terry Hawkridge equalised within 60 seconds of the interval.
However, McDonald nodded home shortly before the hour mark to see Grimsby through to the next round at their rivals’ expense.
Carlisle left it late to defeat non-league Boreham Wood, scoring twice in the last ten minutes to record a 2-1 win.
The Conference South team broke the deadlock through Luke Garrard’s penalty and looked to be heading into the Second Round Proper with 11 minutes left on the clock.
But Lee Miller despatched a header before substitute Mark Beck netted in injury time to break Boreham Wood hearts and bring relief to the Brunton Park faithful.
And Robbie Willmott was the hero for Newport County as his first half free-kick earned a 1-0 victory against Braintree.
Meanwhile, Conference Premier table-toppers Cambridge United will host Bury Town after playing out a 0-0 draw against the League Two side.
