Roy Hodgson admits he is excited to see Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge in partnership against Germany.
The England manager has named the two forwards in his starting XI for Tuesday evening’s Wembley international.
Both players have been in fine form domestically, with Rooney netting five Premier League goals while Sturridge is joint-top scorer with eight.
They have started three internationals together, all at Wembley - against Republic of Ireland, Montenegro and Poland - and Hodgson believes the duo have the potential to strike up a good understanding.
He said: "I do think those two players could carry a lot of responsibility going forward for our attacking threat, because they've such enormous potential.
"Hopefully there will be others breathing down their necks but I was really happy with those last two qualifying games when the pressure was on us and we had to get results.
"They did well for us and it will be nice to see them play against Germany, even though I don't envisage them playing 90 minutes.
"I'm probably looking forward to it more than the German defence will be."
Hodgson also took time to praise Joachim Low’s charges, ranked second in the world by FIFA.
They eased through their World Cup qualifying group, winning nine of their ten matches, scoring 36 goals in the process.
Hodgson added: "I have got a lot of respect for what Joachim and Jurgen [Klinsmann] started off together and Low has definitely carried that on with a vengeance.
"Germany have been really moulded in to quite a force in world football since the 2006 World Cup.
"One has to take one's hat off to what they have achieved, but on Tuesday night we will be doing our level best to send them home empty-handed."
