After helping to fire England to the World Cup with seven goals in six qualifying appearances, Wayne Rooney has set his sights on the Three Lions scoring record.
His two strikes against Montenegro and Poland last month were both huge for Roy Hodgson’s men, giving them the lead in their last two qualifiers at Wembley.
They also paved the way for vital wins that kept England on top of the group and earned a place in the Promised Land – Brazil 2014.

England v Germany

Wembley Stadium
Ahead of Tuesday night's game against Germany, the Manchester United forward had chalked up 38 goals in 87 games for his country and is just eleven behind Old Trafford legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
At 28 years old, Rooney feels there is still plenty of time for him to add more goals to his impressive record at international level.
"I missed four games throughout qualifying, two against Ukraine and two against Moldova, but in the games I played in we did well and I managed to score," Rooney says in the official England v Germany match programme.
"Scoring goals is great and I’ve felt good throughout qualifying, so it was nice to be able to help the team.
"That goal against Poland was important. The game was 0-0 just before half-time and we needed the win. It calmed everyone down and put us in the driving seat to win the game.
He added: "[The record] is there for me to see and I feel I have many years left to play for my country, so it’s a realistic target for me to aim at.
"Hopefully one day I can do it. But for now I’m just concentrating on playing and trying to do well in each game I play."
