Daniel Sturridge stole the headlines by coming off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser in a thrilling Merseyside derby.
An injury doubt before the game, the 24-year-old was only deemed fit enough to start the 221st meeting between the two famous sides on the bench - but ensured his brief spell on the pitch counted by making it 3-3 and rescuing a point for Liverpool with an 89th-minute header.
The game - which featured seven senior England internationals - will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the finest Merseyside derbies for many-a-year.
In a topsy-turvy encounter, Liverpool opened the scoring through Philippe Coutinho in the fifth minute, before being pegged back by a Kevin Mirallas equaliser three minutes later.
The Reds took the lead again through Luis Suarez on 19 minutes - before a late Romelu Lukaku brace looked to have given Everton all three points - but the England front man had other ideas.
With the score still level at 2-2, Sturridge had come on to replace Lucas on 79 minutes - and it was not long before the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker made his mark on the game as he rose to meet England captain Steven Gerrard's free-kick and head home with a minute remaining.
Elsewhere, there was good news as Theo Walcott returned after two months on the sidelines with an abdominal injury in Arsenal's win over Southampton at the Emirates.
In another encounter packed with England internationals it was the Gunners who prevailed, as Frenchman Olivier Giroud scored a goal in each half to ensure Arsene Wenger's men remain top of the Premier League for at least another week.
Meanwhile, across London Jonjo Shelvey came off the bench to fire Swansea to their first win in over a month as Martin Jol saw Fulham slump to a fifth successive defeat in all competitions.
And in the day's late kick-off, Frank Lampard found the net against West Ham for the third meeting in a row. His brace helping Chelsea to a 3-0 victory at Upton Park, with Brazilian Oscar netting the other.
