England U17s will discover their European Championship fate on Wednesday evening as the Finals draw is made at 6pm at Valletta's St James Cavalier in Malta.
John Peacock, who travelled on Wednesday morning to the draw, will see his side joined by Holland, Scotland, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany and host nation Malta in the tournament.
Peacock guided his country to success at the Euros back in 2010, and after recording a 100 per cent record in qualifying, Sir Trevor Brooking believes the attacking nucleus of this year’s squad could see the Young Lions go all the way again.
The qualifiers
Malta (hosts), Switzerland (Group 1), Turkey (Group 2), Netherlands (Group 3), England (Group 4), Germany (Group 5), Scotland (Group 6), Portugal (Group 7)
The FA’s Director of Football Development said: "I went out to the Elite Round games. Czech Republic were the hosts and they had a decent team, so to win that first game gave us control of the group.
"Albania, not surprisingly were a bit more cautious in their structure so it was about breaking that down.
"But we got that second win and then after the Czechs did really well to score two late goals to beat Italy, we went into our last game against Italy as favourites.
"It was a long 25 minutes after they equalised in the second half, because if we’d have lost then we would have finished third in the group.
"But over the three games, there were some good performances individually and collectively and to get nine points was very positive."
Having seen a number of players shine over the last year for the U17s, Sir Trevor believes the group has the potential to be a success at the tournament in May.
"I remember John Peacock saying to this group that we were always hopeful they could do well this season," he said.
Sir Trevor Brooking
"We have a strong nucleus and we have a creative, attacking depth too, which is possibly as good as 2010."
"Our only other win came back in 2010 with the U17s, who went throughout the qualification rounds unbeaten, which we just did as well. Now we have the Finals, with just eight countries remaining.
"Germany, Holland and Portugal are three strong sides and Switzerland did really to knock Russia and Spain out of their group.
"After that, you’ve got Turkey, Scotland and Malta and ourselves so it’s an interesting mix of countries and naturally I’m sure Germany and Portugal will be two of the favourites, as well as ourselves because we came through our qualifying group so well.
"It would be unfair to pick individuals out, as we have a strong nucleus and we have a creative, attacking depth too, which is possibly as good as 2010."
Peacock has a wealth of talent to choose from for the Finals, but with injuries and school exams causing potential absentees, Sir Trevor says he will face a tough face when naming his squad.
He added: "We missed two or three players in the Elite Round, so John will have a decision to make as to whether he brings them back in.
"In the next month, I’m sure John will be looking at whether he will make space for them or reward the players who got them there.
"But I must say that we have a realistic chance in that tournament of getting into the last four. After that, little bits of luck can play their part but I think it’s a good group and I do think there’s a handful of players who have real potential for the future."
