Danny Johnson, 21, lined-up for Guisborough Town last season – notching a club record 59 goals as he finished top of the Northern League scoring charts.
Johnson, who previously had spells with Hartlepool United and Real Murcia, has penned a one-year deal with the option of a further year with the Championship club after attracting scouts from all over the country thanks to his goalscoring exploits last campaign.

The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
The north east club, based just outside of Middlesbrough, enjoyed an exciting FA Cup run last season, and they welcomed TheFA.com’s cameras to their King George V stadium last October for the Third Round Qualifying tie with Conference North side Workington.
With nearly four times their usual crowd, most of whom were hoping of an upset, a ding-dong battle ensued. But the visitors experience showed as the Reds from Cumbria progressed thanks to a lethal second-half performance which saw them come from behind to win the match 4-1 [watch highlights below].
Despite drawing a rare blank that day, Johnson’s former boss Chris Hardy has backed his former marksman to hit the goal trail in the Championship.
The Guisborough boss, who confirmed his club would receive a “full compensation package” that includes a pre-season friendly against the Welsh side, said: “Danny will score goals anywhere. He can score from unexpected positions and can find little openings in the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
“It gives me a lot of pleasure to see one of our players sign with a club of Cardiff’s stature.”
Guisborough kick-off this year’s FA Cup campaign this Saturday at home to Armthorpe Welfare.
