He caught the eye of new Reds boss Louis van Gaal during pre-season and has been a regular for the Old Trafford club ever since, after previously getting a taste of first-team football with loan spells at Birmingham City and Blackpool.
Blackett was no stranger to international football, though, having previously been capped by England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level over the years. And he settled quickly into Gareth Southgate's squad when he joined up for the first time in September.
He trained with the group at St. George's Park before the double-header away in Lithuania and Moldova as the Three Lions rounded-off their qualification group fixtures with two wins.
And it was in the game with Moldova in Tiraspol where Blackett made his debut, as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 win for Southgate's side.
