Joe Hart was in outstanding form as Manchester City won 2-0 in Rome to join Chelsea and Arsenal in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta scored the goals against Roma to send City through, but Three Lions keeper Hart was man of the match after a string of outstanding saves.
The pick of the bunch was a Gordon Banks-style save to tip a header from Kostas Manolas on to the post in the 72nd minute, but there were plenty of other fine saves from Jose Holebas, Francesco Totti and Gervinho.
Without top scorer Sergio Aguero and captain Vincent Kompany, City needed to get a better result than CSKA Moscow, who lost to Bayern Munich, and get at least a scored draw in Rome.
Hart and his Three Lions colleague James Milner played their parts to the full in an heroic performance to send Manuel Pellegrini's men through.
Hart said: “People wrote us off without our key players but we're a strong unit, we believed in what we could do.
"You don't win two Premier League titles in three years easily. We have resolve, character and fantastic players - add that together and you've got a chance."
Chelsea had already qualified as winners of Group G and confirmed their place as one of the favourites with a convincing 3-1 win over Sporting Lisbon, with Gary Cahill looking solid in defence.
Cesc Fabregas, Andre Schurrle and Jon Obi Mikel scored the goals to seal Sporting's fate, and there was even time for England U19 midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek to make his senior debut for Chelsea.
The 18-year-old has also represented the Three Lions at U16 and U17 level, and looked unfazed as he went on for Fabregas for the closing minutes.
