Having just signed for boyhood club Liverpool, from Southampton, Lambert started against Ecuador in the Three Lions' World Cup warm-up game in Miami at the start of June.

Roy Hodgson's men found themselves a goal behind before Wayne Rooney levelled, then Lambert gave England a second-half lead.

Ross Barkley finished off his surging run forward by laying into the path of the 32-year-old just inside the box. Lambert unleashed a powerful drive that gave the keeper no chance.

Lambert's third England strike was later cancelled out as the game ended 2-2.

The Kirkby-born striker played six more times for England in 2014, all as substitute, including an appearance at the World Cup against Uruguay.
