Fran Kirby in action for England against Germany

Fran Kirby only made three appearances for England this year – but she certainly left an impression.

A prolific campaign for Reading in FA WSL 2 prompted Three Lions head coach Mark Sampson to call up the 21-year-old for the World Cup qualifying double-header against Belarus and Ukraine in June.

Although she did not make an appearance, she obviously did enough in training to be included in the next squad – and every squad since.

Kirby made her debut against Sweden in August – and capped off a fine performance with one of England’s four goals.

She replaced Fara Williams in the 4-0 win over Wales just three weeks later, helping her country seal their place at Canada 2015.

Kirby ended her year by coming off the bench at Wembley as England slipped to a 3-0 defeat by European champions Germany in front of a record crowd.
