Roy Hodgson handed Lallana his debut in the Wembley friendly with Chile in November 2013.
He started that match and kept his place for the next friendly after a confident and enterprising display on the right flank.
Lallana appeared in all of the first seven internationals of 2014 and was included in England’s squad for the World Cup.
In Brazil he came on as a substitute against Italy and Uruguay, for Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck respectively, and started the final Group D fixture with Costa Rica. He finished the season with nine caps, having always caught the eye with his intelligent midfield play.
In the summer he made a big-money move to Liverpool but picked up an injury during pre-season. It meant he missed England’s September matches but featured in the last four internationals of the year.
Lallana started against Estonia and Slovenia as the Three Lions built up a significant lead at the top of the group.
