Manchester City began their FA Youth Cup campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Oxford United to progress to the Fourth Round on Thursday.

Marcus Wood gave City the lead midway through the first half, and Bersant Celina added his name to the scoresheet to make the tie safe and send the young U's home empty-handed.

On another day, the hosts might have scored a hatful as they created 19 goalscoring chances in the second-half alone.

And although the visitors battled bravely this was a thoroughly deserved victory for Jason Wilcox’s side.

They will host Coventry City in the next round.

It took penalties to settle a tense derby encounter between Ipswich Town and Colchester United after they fought out a goalless draw.

It is the Tractor Boys who will now meet Sunderland after they eventually ran out 4-2 victors in the shootout.

Town’s other East Anglian rivals, Norwich City, will not be joining them in the Fourth Round after they suffered a 3-1 defeat after extra-time at Doncaster Rovers.
