Manchester City have signed former Arsenal defender Jennifer Beattie from French side Montpellier.
The Scotland international will join City on 3 January 2015.
Beattie is the FA WSL Continental Cup holders’ second major defensive acquisition of the close season following the capture of England defender Lucy Bronze from FA WSL 1 champions Liverpool.
Beattie said: "City have their targets set on winning trophies and that's the kind of club I want to be at.
"I'm very excited. The girls did great last year, it's a really exciting time and I'm really happy to be a part of it.
"The facilities at the club are just unbelievable and it's a really good time to try and make your mark on a club.
“I'm ready for a new challenge and I'm looking forward to returning to the Women's Super League. I've missed it.
"I know some of the girls already and I played alongside Steph Houghton at Arsenal.
“I know her pretty well and the others at City I've already met are a great bunch so I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the team and staff."
City boss Nick Cushing added: "We are delighted to add Jennifer to our squad for the 2015 season.
"We have done a lot of reviewing of the last season and we have highlighted areas we needed to improve as a team. Jennifer was a key target for us, when considering how we continue to evolve this team.
"Her previous experience at club and international level is exceptional and we all look forward to working with Jen."
During her time with the Gunners, Beattie won The FA WSL title, The FA Women’s Cup and Continental Cup.
