Former Wimbledon midfielder Carlton Fairweather has been appointed as Sunderland Ladies’ new head coach.
The 53-year-old joined the Black Cats’ coaching staff in 2013, and replaces Mick Mulhern, who guided the club to last season’s FA WSL 2 title.
Mulhern stepped down in November, having been unable to commit to coaching full-time in addition to being a police officer.
Fairweather began his career in non-League football and went on to make 138 appearances for the ‘Crazy Gang’. He also enjoyed a brief spell with Carlisle United.
