Wisbech Town are through to the Quarter-Finals of the FA Vase for the first time in 24 years after coming from behind to record a 2-1 win at Hadleigh United.

The home side took the lead, somewhat fortuitously, through Shane Wardley shortly before the half-hour mark but Jon Fairweather levelled in the 44th minute. Tom James struck late on from the penalty spot to clinch the win for Wisbech during his final outing for the club.
Hadleigh opened the scoring in quite bizarre circumstances in the 28th minute. Ryan Stafford’s initial shot was turned on to the post and captain Paul Cousin’s attempted clearance struck Wardley and nestled in the back of the net.
But Wisbech were behind for only 16 minutes, with Jon Fairweather smashing home from close range following neat work from Danny White and Adam Millson.
Hadleigh’s hopes of advancing to the next stage were dashed eight minutes from time when Liam Jennings clumsily brought down White inside the box. James, who is moving to Australia next week, stepped up and held his nerve to send Fred Howe the wrong way and book Wisbech’s place in the last eight.
Ampthill Town beat Hanwell Town 3-1 after extra time.
The match between Spennymoor Town and Newcastle Benfield was postponed as recent rainfall left the pitch under water and unplayable. The two sides will now meet at the Brewery Field on Saturday 22 February at 3pm.
The Fifth Round tie between Sholing and Larkhall Athletic was also called off.
