The Isuzu FA Trophy

South Coast rivals cannot be separated in FA Trophy Semi

Monday 17 Feb 2014
This FA Trophy Semi-Final is nicely poised

It's fitting there is only 16 miles between Havant & Waterlooville and Gosport Borough - this FA Carlsberg Trophy Semi-Final remains too close to call after this first leg draw.

A trip to Wembley is at stake and both sides will feel they have a real chance of making The Final after a tight encounter on Monday night.

Tim Sills gave Gosport the lead on 47 minutes before Nic Ciardini levelled things up just before the hour mark to leave the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg at Privett Park.

This Hampshire derby was originally meant for Saturday but was postponed due to the bad weather and in truth, the poor conditions contributed to a scrappy opening when this clash finally got under way.

Neither goalkeeper had much to do in the opening exchanges but the Hawks edged a quiet first half, with Scott Jones coming closest with a drive that just went over the bar.

Sahr Kabba was introduced for the second 45 minutes and he made an instant impression for the hosts as he shot towards goal, before the visitors managed to clear.

Just a minute later, Gosport took the lead. The Hawks failed to deal with a long ball forward and Sills shot left-footed into the bottom right-hand corner for his fourth of the season.

Ciardini almost equalised straight away but his effort just cleared the crossbar to the disappointment of the home faithful. He soon made the breakthrough, though.

Following a neat team move from a corner, Ciardini's shot from the edge of the box evaded a crowd of bodies and nestled into the bottom left for Lee Bradbury's men.

Jones had a good chance to hand his side a lead to take to Privett Park but his effort late on was blocked superbly Lee Molyneaux.
