Gareth Barry says he’s still hoping to earn a place in England’s squad for the World Cup this summer, after helping Everton continue their impressive campaign with a stunning goal on Saturday.

The 32-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, fired home a sizzling shot against Norwich City to set Roberto Martinez’s side on their way to a 2-0 win.

And with Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson watching on at Goodison Park, Barry is hoping he can continue impressing for the rest of the season and win his place back in the England squad.

He hasn’t been involved with England since before Euro 2012, during the early days of Hodgson's spell, but a consistent run of games with Everton this season may have seen him play his way back into contention.

"I'm definitely still available,” said Barry.

“I've not spoken to the manager since I got injured after the Euros, so we will see.

"The manager knows about my game so it's not like I'm young and coming through.

"The manager has used players, rightly, who have got the team qualified and generally he will, I'm sure, stick with those.

"But if things occur and he needs another player I'm definitely still here."

With 53 caps to his name and over 400 Premier League appearances in his career, Barry is one of the most experienced midfielders in the top flight.

And despite Saturday’s strike being his 50th Premier League goal, he admits Hodgson probably won’t be looking at that side of his game in too much detail.

But Barry believes his experience and familiarity with the international set-up from over the years means it would be a simple transition for him should Hodgson decide to recall him.

"I'm not sure he would be expecting me to be scoring goals but that was a solid performance as well [on Saturday],” he added.

"It won't be a case of joining up and being fresh and nervous, I would be able to settle straight back in and I'm sure the manager knows that. We will see.

"I think in football you have to keep looking forward - I had four great years at Manchester City but if you're going to be successful you can't look back."
