Jack Wilshere scored one and created another as Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa on Monday evening.
The 22-year-old shone in the heart of the Gunners midfield as two quick-fire goals within a minute during the first-half proved to be enough to seal the points for Arsene Wenger’s men.
Wilshere opened the scoring on 34 minutes before turning provider seconds later, playing Olivier Giroud through to double the advantage.
Christian Benteke pulled a goal back for Villa on 76 minutes but Arsenal held on for a vital victory.
The second-half saw the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the first time since the opening day of the season.
The winger came off the bench for the final few minutes in place of Tomas Rosicky and fellow England international Kieran Gibbs also appeared as a substitute when he replaced the injured Nacho Monreal.
