Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Chelsea’s highly-rated England Under-21 midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on-loan.
The 19-year-old, who can also play in defence, joins the Championship side for the remainder of the season after spending the first half of the year with Nottingham Forest in a similar deal.
Chalobah made his U17 debut for his country at only 14-years-old and he was named Men’s Youth Player of the Year at The Football Association’s England Awards last February.
He also represented the Under-21 team at last summer’s European Championships and he captained the Stamford Bridge side as they won the 2012 FA Youth Cup.
Last season he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Watford, scoring with a thunderous strike in a win at Leicester City in their penultimate league game before suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the play-off final against Crystal Palace at Wembley.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho predicted a bright future for the youngster at the club after he impressed during the club’s 2013 summer tour of Asia but said he would like him to have one more season out on loan.
Mourinho backed up his comments by signing Chalobah up to a new five-year deal before he was loaned out to Forest.
Chalobah is expected to go straight into the Middlesbrough squad for their home match with Charlton on Saturday.
