With two-and-a-half years at Liverpool under his belt Jordan Henderson says he feels at home in the city and is eagerly anticipating Tuesday’s Merseyside derby.

“I want to be emotionally attached to Liverpool and want to do my best for the club and don't want to lose, especially in derbies. Hopefully that won't be the case," he said, speaking after his side's 2-0 FA Cup victory at Bournemouth on Sunday.

The England midfielder completed his move from Sunderland to Liverpool in June 2011 – and has gone on to become one of their most consistent, and frequently used, players this term.

The Reds are enjoying their best start to a league campaign since the 2008/09 season – and are only four points worse off after 22 games than they were five years ago - when they went on to finish as runners-up.

Henderson has played a key role in the positive start Brendan Rodgers’ side have made to the season.

With both blue and red halves of the city vying for a Champions League place, the 23-year-old is relishing the prospect of Tuesday’s derby.

“I'm sure it will be a good game for the neutral so I hope we will get the three points,” he added.

“I've been here quite a long time now and I feel at home.

The two great rivals go into Tuesday’s encounter with just a single point separating them, and despite have home advantage, Henderson knows his side will face a stern test.

“I'm sure every derby you play in will be physical. You have to battle first and earn the right to play. But both teams will want to get on the ball and dominate possession.”

Henderson has played in a Merseyside before, of course, and featured in the enthralling 3-3 draw when the two sides met at Goodison Park in November.

Asked how it compared to the Tyne-Wear derbies he has experienced during his time at Sunderland, he replied: “They're both very passionate about football, all the fans, and it's very similar in that way.

“I found it similar when I played against Newcastle, the rivalry is always there and when I came to Liverpool and played against Everton it was very much the same.”

Tuesday's fixture will be the 222nd time the two sides have met - and the 44th league contest since the formation of the Premier League.

During this time Everton have only won in the league at Anfield on two occasions.
