House and home for Ochoa
The performances of Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa have caught the eye in Brazil, with the 28-year-old making a string of stunning saves as La Verde progressed to the second round before losing to the Netherlands at the weekend.
And Ochoa’s performances have undoubtedly led to a number of clubs sniffing around his services, with his contract at French club Ajaccio now at an end.
But whilst his agent will certainly be busy fielding the calls, there could be an improved offer from the Ligue 2 outfit, as a wealthy local supporter has said he will sell his house in a bid to raise enough money to keep Ochoa at the club.
The fan estimates £8m will be enough to secure his services for another few seasons in Corsica.
More pain for Pinilla
Chile star Mauricio Pinilla didn’t waste any time in commemorating their unfortunate second-round penalty shoot-out defeat against Brazil at the weekend.
The striker was just inches away from winning the game for Chile, as his shot came crashing back off the bar in the closing seconds of the game in Belo Horizonte which ended 2-2 after extra-time.
But when the game went to penalties, it was the host nation who emerged as winners to send the impressive Chileans back home across South America.
And despite still suffering from the pain of that defeat, Pinilla was happy to inflict further hurt on himself by getting a tattoo of his shot hitting the bar, along with the words ‘One centimetre from glory’.
The game was also memorable for Pinilla for another reason, as he was on the end of an attack from a Brazilian press officer during a half-time scuffle in the tunnel.
Watch Severa's reaction as Portugal exit the World Cup
Dancing dog down in the dumps
Severa the dog found fame in the group stages when she was caught on camera celebrating Portugal’s last-minute goal against the USA.
And she was at it again when Cristiano Ronaldo and Co found their World Cup adventure at an end last week, as her owners captured the moment she reacted to her team’s 2-1 win over Ghana.
Despite the positive result, Severa sensed the bigger picture with Paulo Bento's exiting the competition and leading her to a more downbeat reaction this time.
