England Women’s U16s recorded their second win in 24 hours as they defeated Iceland 3-1 in the second match of the Nordic Tournament.
The Young Lions edged Holland 1-0 on Friday and took just nine minutes to get back into the groove courtesy of a sumptuous 25-yard free-kick from Derby County’s Megan Tinsley after Arsenal’s Charlotte Devlin was upended.
Sandy MacIver made a tremendous save when one-on-one, but there was little the Everton goalkeeper could do to prevent the Scandinavians from eventually equalising on the half hour mark, the Iceland captain rifling home a sweetly struck, angled volley.
But Blackburn forward Georgia Stanway bettered that effort five minutes later as she curled home a magnificent effort from near the right-hand corner flag to restore England’s advantage.
And Arsenal youngster Chloe Kelly sealed the win late on with an excellent turn and finish from the edge of the box.
England’s final group game is against host nation Sweden on Monday afternoon.
