Chloe Kelly has scored two goals in the Nordic Tournament

England Women’s U16s slipped to a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their final group game of the annual Nordic Tournament.

Marieanne Spacey's side recorded earlier group victories against Holland and Iceland, but they were unable to replicate that form in Smogen.

The host nation raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes but Arsenal’s Chloe Kelly reduced arrears just before half-time, latching onto Ashleigh Plumptre’s knock down to coolly find the back of the net for her second goal of the competition.

That was to be just a brief reprieve, though, as Sweden notched another two goals shortly after the restart to complete the Scandinavians’ victory.

England will now take on Norway in Wednesday’s third/fourth-place play-off.
