Denis Irwin has backed England youngster Luke Shaw to shine for Manchester United “for years to come”.
Shaw joined the Reds from Southampton at the end of last month in a deal that makes the 19-year-old the most expensive teenager in the world.
He made his England debut against Denmark in March and was included in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup, making his only appearance against Costa Rica.
And former United left-back Irwin believes Shaw will be a success at Old Trafford.
Irwin said: "He has pace, is great going forward and is still only young.
"He is going to be a fantastic signing for years to come.
"We have to accept he will make mistakes defensively.
“But he has been playing in the Premier League for the last two years with Southampton and he is only going to get better.”
