Manchester City manager Nick Cushing admits his side are in exactly the right position to mount a FA WSL 1 title push after beating reigning champions Liverpool.
Krystle Johnston’s deflected effort proved enough for City to emerge victors and extend their winning streak at home to six games in all competitions.
And though Cushing has warned his team not to get carried away, he believes his side’s self-belief will stand them in good stead.
“We're really happy, our key principle is to have possession and dominate the ball and I think we did that in the first half,” said Cushing, whose side sit in fourth in the table.
“It's pleasing to be in and around teams like Liverpool and Chelsea, they're good teams that have been together a long time, but we're in a good position, we're really happy.
“We're confident that we'll prepare properly [ahead of the Bristol Academy game] but we don't get ahead of ourselves and expect to win games.”
Meanwhile, a last-gasp Fiona O’Sullivan goal denied Arsenal back-to-back FA WSL wins for the first time this season, as Notts County rescued a point at Borehamwood.
England defender Casey Stoney had given Arsenal the lead in the ninth minute from the spot, after Danielle Carter was brought down by Amy Turner.
But O’Sullivan fired through a crowded box in the 88th minute to secure the point for the visitors, who sit one place below the Gunners in sixth.
Chelsea moved towards the top of the league with a 2-1 win over Bristol Academy, thanks to goals from Yuki Ogimi and England striker Eniola Aluko, with Nikki Watts getting a late consolation for Bristol.
In FA WSL 2, Watford moved up to fourth spot with a 2-1 win over strugglers Oxford United, with Stacie Donnelly and Jo Wilson scoring for the Golden Girls and Laura Low for Oxford.
And goals from Nicola Cousins and Helen Bleazard secured Yeovil’s third win of the season as they downed Millwall 2-0.
On Saturday, Reading beat London Bees 5-1 to take their unbeaten streak to seven games, and Sunderland shared a point with top-of-the-table rivals Doncaster Belles.
