The pair have been with the Reds squad in the USA for the club’s pre-season tour over the last week and have featured in games against the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and LA Galaxy.
And whilst Van Gaal admits he is still looking to add some new defenders to his squad before the start of the new campaign, Under-21s ace Keane and former U19s international Blackett were singled out by the Dutchman following Tuesday evening’s win against Inter.
"I am looking at the defenders we have first," revealed Van Gaal.
"And when you see our three matches, we are doing well I think but it is right that we are looking for defenders because a lot of defenders have gone.
"We have to replace them, but I like also like Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett.
"We have to wait and see if we can do that in more matches.
"I think the Premier League is another taste."
Keane was a regular for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions last term, whilst Blackett has been capped at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level.
Both players have had experience away from Old Trafford on loan in the Championship, with Keane featuring for Derby County and Blackburn Rovers and Blackett with Birmingham City last season.
