Raheem Sterling can become “as great as he wants” according to his Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds forward is with the England squad in Miami ahead of their final two warm-up matches against Ecuador on Wednesday and Honduras on Friday before they depart to Brazil for the World Cup.

The 19-year-old, who won his third cap for his country in Friday’s 3-0 victory over Peru, enjoyed a stunning campaign for his club last season as he helped them to a second place finish in the Premier League – and Rodgers is now tipping the youngster to replicate that form with the Three Lions on the biggest stage of all.

"He can replicate what he's done for us with England"

"Raheem is a very intelligent player," said Rodgers. "He has a good football brain, and great belief in himself.

"He can replicate what he's done for us with England if he's given the freedom to play fearlessly. It's easy for people to forget that he's still very young because of his mature performances.

"And what's he's achieved this season is fantastic because he's coming up against older, more experienced players and often ones bought for millions and millions of pounds.”

Rodgers told Liverpool's website: "As I've said, Raheem's been one of the most outstanding young players throughout Europe and we just want him to kick on now. He can become as great as he wants to be; we will help him in every aspect."
