Phil Jones enjoyed the 'work-out' against Ecuador
Phil Jones was pleased with England's "work-out" against Ecuador, as preparations for Brazil were stepped up again during Wednesday’s game in Miami.

Goals from Wayne Rooney and Rickie Lambert cancelled out Enner Valencia's early opener for the South Americans before Michael Arroyo levelled matters in the second half at Sun Life Stadium.

And the Manchester United defender, who was playing his first game in a month, says a game in the heat and humidity of Florida was an important part of the Three Lions' build-up for the World Cup.

"It was a good work-out, it was hot and what we expected but it’s what we wanted to acclimatise ourselves for the real test in Brazil and the first game on 14 June," said the 22-year-old, when he spoke to TheFA.com after the game.

"It was a good test, against good opponents, and at times we played well so are overall we are pleased.

"We probably caused our own problems at times in the first half but once we got past that line of defence and we broke the lines, we caused all sorts of problems."

With the World Cup opener against Italy now just eight days away, the squad are still acclimatising to the heat and humidity in Florida, which they are almost certain to encounter in Manaus.

And with another game coming up against Honduras on Saturday, the former Blackburn Rovers man believes the preparations will help them once the big kick-off arrives.

"All these warm-up games are crucial, they are not just friendlies they are crucial to prepare ourselves for the 14 June," he added.

"You notice [the humidity] but once you are out there, all you are focused on is performing well and doing the right things.

"On another night we probably could have got a few more and one the game, but it wasn’t to be. But overall a good work-out."
