Lambert strikes home England's second goal against Ecuador
Rickie Lambert is now five caps and three goals into his England career, but says the buzz of scoring for the Three Lions is still the “best feeling in the world”.

The striker, who signed for boyhood club Liverpool from Southampton just hours before jetting off with Roy Hodgson’s squad last week, scored the second goal in England’s 2-2 draw with Ecuador in Miami.

And the 32-year-old admits he was pleased with the strike, if not the final result against the South American outfit.

"It’s the best feeling in the world, scoring for England," said Lambert.

"I’ve caught it clean, looked up and seen it in the back of the net. It was inch-perfect so I could strike it first time.

"It would have been nice to win, of course, but we didn’t lose it, we had a few chances to win it comfortably.

"We didn’t take it, but it’s building – that’s the most important thing.

"Fair play to Ecuador, I think they scored two great goals but we knew we could get back at them - I thought we were the better team.

"When we went 2-1 up I thought we could have gone 3-1 up and that’s disappointing that we couldn’t do that. But full credit to Ecuador, they came back and scored another good goal.

"We’ll look at it and see where we can improve. There are areas where we gave the ball away in silly positions, and tried to turn when we shouldn’t have. We’ll look at it and improve from it."

England will play their final World Cup warm-up game on Saturday when they face Honduras, again at the Sun Life Stadium, before heading to Brazil ahead of their opener against Italy on 14 June.

"We are building for the World Cup and that was the first time we’ve played in heat like that," he told TheFA.com.

"You can definitely feel it, even when the suns not out you can feel it. But when the sun comes out, even for five or ten minutes, it saps you.

"So it was good it was like that and hopefully it is even more intense in the next game because that’s what we need.

"We can take a lot of positives and will look at it and see where we can improve."
