The Everton defender was cautioned for an innocuous foul on Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios during the 0-0 stalemate at the Sun Life Stadium.
Having seen an elaborate reaction to the foul from Stoke City’s Palacios, as well as being promptly confronted by a number of his team-mates, Baines was mature enough to withdraw himself from any further confrontation.
And with Honduras ending the match with ten men following a sending off for Brayan Beckeles and a further three bookings, Baines felt it was another important lesson for the Three Lions ahead of this week’s World Cup.
"We did well to keep our composure," said Baines.
"I thought a few of the challenges were a bit harsh.
"There was a bad one on Stevie [Gerrard] and I was just glad to see him get up after that.
"But you didn't see us running over and making a meal of it.
"The one incident I got booked for I went over and asked him why he went down and suddenly there were three or four people around me.

"You just have to walk away from it because they are making a meal of it, it's a lesson for us."
The match brought England’s on-pitch preparations for the World Cup to an end, with the squad now settling into their base in Brazil.
Roy Hodgson’s men flew to Rio straight after the game and will have their first training session in Brazil on Monday morning ahead of Saturday’s opener against Italy in Manaus.
"We are looking forward to it," added the 29-year-old.
"We feel we are in a good place.
"We had a good week in Miami, we adjusted to the heat and the time zone.
"We have been together for three weeks, but it hasn't actually felt that long. It has flown by really."
