After beating Honduras 3-0 in their opening game, Didier Deschamps’s side showed they mean business in the competition with another impressive performance.
They got off to the best possible start when they opened the scoring after just 17 minutes when Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud headed home from a corner.
They doubled their lead just seconds later after Velon Behrami gave away possession straight from the restart and Blaise Matuidi blasted home.
It should have been three for France on 31 minutes after they were awarded a penalty after Karim Benzema was brought down inside the area by Johan Djourou, but Switzerland keeper Diego Benaglio dived to his right to keep out Benzema’s spot kick and Mathieu Debuchy smashed the rebound against the woodwork.
Not to be deterred, they did add a third on 40 minutes after a superb counter-attacking move. From defending a corner, they raced down the other end before Giroud picked out Mathieu Valbuena who tapped in from close-range.

Benzema then made up for his penalty miss when he added a fourth on 67 minutes after he latched onto a pass from Paul Pogba and made no mistake striking the ball through Benaglio’s legs.
Moussa Sissoko made it five for France on 73 minutes when fired the ball into the bottom corner as it looked like they would continue to run riot but Switzerland showed their fighting spirit to add some respect to the scoreline.
Consolation goals from Blerim Dzemaili and Granit Xhaka in the final ten minutes ensured they left with some pride, but it is France who will dominate the headlines after a superb victory.
In Group E’s other match, Enner Valencia scored both goals as Ecuador left Honduras on the verge of exiting the tournament.
Carlo Costly met a long ball and lashed in a low 20-yard shot to put Honduras ahead on 31 minutes.
Ecuador reacted quickly, however, and they equalised when a deflected cross fell for Valencia to slot home.
He then nodded in at the far post to give his side the lead in the second-half and ultimately seal the victory.
Honduras are yet to win in eight World Cup matches and, even if they beat Switzerland in their final group game, they will not be certain to progress due to their goal difference.
Ecuador will meet France in their final group game and, if Switzerland win or draw against Honduras, they need to match that result to reach the last 16.
