The FA Women's Super League returns next weekend
Two of the country's biggest cities will go head-to-head as The FA Women’s Super League returns from its midseason break next weekend.

London and Liverpool will battle it out for city supremacy when Arsenal and Chelsea travel up to Merseyside for a tantalising double header that will be broadcast live on BT Sport 1 on Sunday 29th June, with Liverpool kicking off the event at 12.15pm against Arsenal.

The Gunners, who recently won The FA Women's Cup for a 13th time, will face off against reigning champions Liverpool, and right-back Alex Scott is determined to show people why the capital city reigns supreme, despite the fact managerless Arsenal are currently propping up the table.

She said: “Hopefully our Cup Final win will be our turning point. Against Everton we showed how well we can play and we need to take that into the Liverpool game. I’m a proud east Londoner and London is the main city, the one and only city.”

But London-born Liverpool midfielder Fara Williams is keen to keep the bragging rights up north - in a place she now regards as home.

Williams said: “People from Liverpool are so much more friendly than anywhere else. Football is obviously massive in the city and although Everton and Liverpool fans respect each other a lot, there’s also a great rivalry between them and it’s probably the best derby in the country. I’m originally from Battersea but I’d now class Liverpool as home.”

Meanwhile, Everton take on Chelsea at 3.15pm in the second match. Chelsea defender Laura Bassett, wants the Blues to kick start their campaign with a good result on the road against Andy Spence's young team.

Bassett added: "We've had an OK start to the season but we would obviously have liked to have picked up a few more points than we have.

"This game can be our chance to show that we really mean business especially in front of the TV cameras."

Spence has similar ideas, particularly after he led the Toffees to a runners-up spot in The FA Women's Cup.

Now he wants his charges to restart the season with a bang.

He said: "Having back to back games will be a great way to re-start after the international break for the fans as they will be able to see 4 teams full of quality.

"For us at Everton I will be really looking forward to us showing that we are ready to compete with a Chelsea team who have made significant investment and are considered as one of the favourites for the league title this season."

The FA Fanzone takes place from 10:15am – 12:15pm and 1:15pm – 3:15pm.
