Raheem Sterling came off the bench and scored with his first touch as Liverpool ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Southampton.
It has been quite a week for the 19-year-old winger.
On Thursday he was named in the England senior squad for the first time since making his debut in November 2012 - and on Saturday scored a vital goal for his club as arrived into the box late and met Luis Suarez's low cross to give Liverpool a two-goal cushion against a Southampton side on the ascendancy.
Luis Suarez had put Liverpool ahead in the 16th minute, and England captain put the result beyond doubt with a last-minute penalty as the Reds ensured they kept in striking distance of top spot.
The result means Liverpool leapfrog Arsenal and Manchester City and move into second place in the Premier League - four points behind leaders Chelsea.
Speaking after the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could not hide his delight.
"This is a really difficult place to come, Southampton are an excellent side, and it was an all-round outstanding team performance, both with and without the ball," he told Sky Sports 1.
"I'm delighted for the players because they showed great concentration in the game and got their rewards.
"I thought defensively we were outstanding. And we got three goals and arguably could may be have had five or six again so I thought tactically the players were outstanding."
