Luke Shaw says he is desperate to impress England boss Roy Hodgson after his first senior call-up - but that he has not yet considered his own World Cup prospects.
Shaw received the call on Thursday and the 18-year-old is looking ahead to the friendly against Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday.
The defender only made his England-U21 debut in September but a series of consistent stellar performances at left-back for Southampton earned him a promotion to the England senior squad, just three months ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
"It has been an amazing and emotional week," said Shaw.
"I was a little teary on the phone to my mum after finding out and I think had we won against Liverpool [Southampton lost 3-0], it would have been the best week of my life."
Shaw has progressed through the Southampton academy that has produced England internationals Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and fellow Saint Adam Lallana in recent years.
"Everybody knows what our academy here is about and I think we can keep on producing young players," he said.
"There are four of us in the seniors, James Ward-Prowse in the England U21 squad and four in the U19s, as well as young Josh Sims away with the U17s.
"Hopefully I can get a chance and take it on Wednesday as well as in the couple of training sessions we have before the game.
“I have no eyes on the World Cup yet but we will see what happens at the end of the season”

"I will see what happens this week in training, I have no eyes on the World Cup yet but we will see what happens at the end of the season.
"I am sure the four of us [called up to senior squad] will try to impress the manager on Wednesday and between now and the end of the season.
"Steven Gerrard had a little word with me after the game [on Saturday] and congratulated me and it is great for me, to have the England captain to be saying nice things."
Shaw's club manager, Mauricio Pochettino said he was delighted for the defender and his other England stars to get called up with the World Cup in such close proximity.
"We need to enjoy this moment. Luke should enjoy this, just as Jay, Rickie and Adam did with their first call-ups," said Pochettino.
"It is a massive boost for any player to be called up for England, especially with such a short time until the World Cup."
