Not long after successfully launching their first FA Futsal Fives League, Manchester Futsal Club are at it again having established two new leagues that are catering for both the male and female audience.
The new leagues in Trafford and Gorton provide greater scope for local teams to access recreational Futsal in the East and West regions of Greater Manchester.
And club chairman Simon Wright is delighted to see the demand for Futsal leagues has picked up within Manchester, allowing the club to increase their potential pool of talent.
"Given the level of enquiries that we were seeing following the introduction of our Central Manchester League, we felt that branching out to new areas of the city would be a viable option for us," he said.
"We wanted to ensure that we were not turning teams away or making them have to wait for a long period for a league slot to become available."
The club have also found that more and more small-sided facilities seem to be tuning into the opportunity to incorporate Futsal leagues into their venue programmes.
"Our new men’s league will operate from Powerleague’s Soccerdome," added Wright.
"The fact that they have now introduced a purpose-built Futsal court into the venue will enable us to explore the 5v5 market even more and provide an alternative."
One local success story is League Co-ordinator Stuart Cook, who himself represents Manchester Futsal Club and is a current England Futsal International.
And he shared his own starting point of five a-side and how he came to love Futsal from there.
"Although I began playing in traditional five a-side leagues I quickly fell in love with Futsal," said Cook.
"I just found the game was right for me and my style. I’m sure that our teams are going to really enjoy the new league. We’ve got a great venue and, who knows, this could be the starting point for young players that want to go on to the highest level of English Futsal."
Across the city, Manchester’s first ever women’s Futsal league is also gathering momentum week by week. The league is currently running as an FA Futsal Cup qualifying league, with the winners having the chance to progress all the way to the women’s finals at the Copperbox in London.
"What an amazing opportunity for women’s teams in Manchester," explained Leanne Skarratt, who is Manchester Futsal Club’s Women’s Co-ordinator.
"The teams have really taken to the format, the fact that we are breaking new ground for women’s Futsal in Manchester through our FA Futsal Fives league is a great step for the club. I have no doubt it will support the development of our women’s team going forward."
Both leagues promise to provide an even greater connection between Futsal players and Manchester Futsal Club in the future and will ensure that local players can experience leading competitions like the FA Futsal Cup on an ongoing basis.
