After spending his entire playing career at the Boleyn Ground, making over 600 appearances for the Hammers and scoring 102 goals, Brooking was recognised by the east London club at their Player Awards.
And after helping the club to two FA Cup titles in 1975 and 1980, when he scored the winning goal in The Final against Arsenal, it’s the latest honour bestowed on Brooking after the naming of their Centenary Stand after him.
He was also named as ‘Hammer Of The Year’ five times during his playing days, as well as enjoying a good record as caretaker manager at the club in 2003.
"I'm delighted," admitted Brooking on his receipt of the award.
"It's great when you've got a lot of fans here, who really appreciate what you did in the past.
"They know that I'm still very fond of the club and after 19 years of playing for them I've got some great memories. Nothing can take that away."
Brooking follows in the footsteps of former Hammers team-mate Billy Bonds, who received the inaugural award at last year’s ceremony and The FA’s Director of Football Development enjoyed the event, which raises funds for the club’s academy.
"I spoke to Bonzo, Billy Bonds, who got last year's award. Billy and I are good mates, we played together a lot," he added.
"He said it was a great evening and it makes you realise how lucky you are to have had that career with a club for so long."
The evening also saw England Under-21s forward Ravel Morrison amongst the honours, as his solo strike against Tottenham Hotspur last October was named as goal of the season.
And England U17s goalkeeper Sam Howes was also a winner, receiving the Young Hammer of the Year award.
Howes wasn’t present to receive the award though, as he’s currently in Malta with the Young Lions as they prepare to start their Euro Finals campaign.
