Manchester United youngster Demetri Mitchell would love to follow in the footsteps of club mate Wayne Rooney - and return to Old Trafford with a European Championship winners medal.
The forward appeared as a second-half substitute as England U17s recorded a 3-0 victory over Malta on Friday evening.
Mitchell and his team-mates are now preparing to face Turkey on Monday in their second group match, knowing that victory would almost certainly secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Speaking at the team hotel in Mellieha Bay, Mitchell said: "It was good to get the win but we need to move forward from here.
"I was happy with my run-out and pleased to help the team gain the victory.
"The atmosphere was loud. It seemed to be a family area on one side and their main fans on the other.
"It was a proud moment when I came on for everyone who has supported me in my friends and family, but for myself as well."
The Young Lions have an early start on Monday for the 10am kick-off, where they will need to take a ferry ride to the island of Gozo, but Mitchell says they can't afford to be caught napping.
He added: "Turkey will be a physical side and they'll be a big threat from set-pieces and crosses. We need to be aware, and start the game strongly.
"I want the chance to get on and make an impact - I'd love to help us reach the semis.
"It would be a quality feeling to be the one who got the goal - but as long as we get the win that's the most important thing."
And with the matches beamed back live on Eurosport, Mitchell says the squad are keen to impress.
He said: "It's quite intense and a big stage for young players to perform on. Me and the team just want to make the most of the opportunity and come back as winners."
He continued: "There's so many quality players that have played in this tournament in the past. Eden Hazard and Ross Barkley have been involved in recent years and we want to follow in their footsteps.
"It would mean everything to win this Championship. It's the biggest competition in our age group, and it would show everyone how good a group we are."
And he's not short of inspiration. Mitchell said England striker Wayne Rooney is a hero of his, and someone he is keen to follow I the footsteps of.
"He's a brilliant player to look up to," said Mitchell. "At United he's quite humble and gives advice to the young lads. He's quite active with the youth side of it.
"Also, he's another forward player too so it has got to be a goal to try and emulate him and the success he has had.
"He's going to be going to the World Cup with England this summer - that could be me in a few years if I keep working hard."
