Fraser Forster says the World Cup has been on his mind all season and, with three games to prepare for the big kick off in Brazil, he wants to be ready if called upon for action.

The Celtic stopper made his Three Lions debut in November against Chile, and with another South American side coming to Wembley on Friday night, he believes it will be great preparation for this summer.

Forster, who lifted the Scottish Premier League title for the third time this year, also feels his Champions League experience for the Bhoys will help him as England take on the world next month.

Fraser Forster talks through the England keepers' training routine

"People asked me about [the World Cup] a year ago and from that moment on it was a goal of mine to be in the World Cup squad," admitted the 26-year-old.

"My 'keeper coach at Celtic [Stevie Woods] said to me when we had our first Champions League qualifier away at Cliftonville, 'It starts here it you want to get on the plane to Brazil'.

"He was spot on. It’s a massive thing, to be a part of the World Cup squad with England. I’ve played something like 30 times in the Champions League, it’s a good number of games at that level and it’s a level I want to play at.

"You have to play against some of the best players in the world, it’s a real test, but they’re the games you dream of playing in when you’re a kid."

He continued: "At times you have to put it to the back of your mind and focus on club football. But we’re here now and that's all you think about.

"It’s something special. It’s an added bonus it’s in Brazil - a once in a lifetime opportunity. Day by day as we get closer to getting to Brazil it gets that bit more exciting.

"It’ll be a great feeling when we get off that plane, that’ll be when we have to fully switch on, it’ll be important we give 100 per cent each day and we’ll see where it takes us."

Before they fly to Brazil, Roy Hodgson's men take on Peru at Wembley and then Ecuador and Honduras in Miami. Forster believes they will be three perfect games to prepare for their Group D matches at the World Cup.

"First of all it’s about getting your fitness, making sure we are all as fit as we can be," he said. "Obviously you want to pick up results mainly, but good performances are an added bonus.

"From a personal level you just want to train as hard as you can over the next few weeks, if you get some game-time do as well as you can. It’ll be like that for all of the lads.

He added: "We’ll definitely benefit from the games. It’s good to play South America opposition as it’s what we’re going to come up against – it’ll be a good experience for us.

"Obviously in the Chile game they were one of the best teams you’ll come across, getting the ball and playing out from the back, making the pitch very big.

"That game was a great experience. We learned a lot from it and we now have these three games to implement our tactics and really prepare for what we are going to face.

"I think now it is concentrating at it one game at a time, not looking too far ahead and going out with a positive mind-set. As a team we have to go out and be positive.

"The World Cup brings everyone together, it’s all anyone talks about. They are fantastic tournaments and it’ll be a fantastic one in Brazil."
