Daniel Sturridge refused to take the plaudits despite setting England up for victory over Peru with a terrific first-half goal.
The Liverpool striker collected Glen Johnson’s throw-in, cut back onto his favoured left foot and curled a wonderful effort beyond Raul Fernandez and into the top corner.
Gary Cahill headed a second on 65 and Phil Jagielka completed the scoring five minutes later as Roy Hodgson’s men eased to a 3-0 win at Wembley in their final home match before the World Cup.

Sturridge told FATV: “Once we got the goal it opened up a little, but before that it was very difficult to break them down. But we played very good football and in the end it was a great result.
“It was a quick throw from Johnno, I took it across and just whipped it in. It happened quite quickly, so can’t remember it as much, so I’d like to see it again because I don’t know what it looks like.
“It’s about the team, not about myself. We’re here as a team, we work as a team and we take the glory when people score as a team. Everyone’s together, it doesn’t matter who scores as long as we are winning.”
England fly to Miami on Sunday where they will play two final warm-up matches, against Ecuador and Honduras.
They begin their World Cup campaign against Italy in Manaus on 14 June and Sturridge admits the big kick-off is all he has been focused on.
He added: “It was good preparation for us, we worked very hard in the game. We’ve had a very hard training week as well so it was good to get a result for the fans.
“But it’s all part of the preparation for the World Cup and we’re all aiming for the first game, which is Italy.
“It was a clean sheet, we worked very hard attack-wise, but it’s all part of the preparation.
“We’re looking forward to the next game now. The big one is the first one against Italy. We’ll take the positives out of this game and moved forward.”
