The draw for the Second Round Proper of The FA Vase was made at Wembley today. The 64 ties are scheduled for 22 November and the winners will each pick up £1,200 from The FA’s prize fund.
All The Vase’s ‘big guns’ come in at this stage, including West Auckland Town, last season’s losing Finalists. The Northern League outfit, who also reached the 2012 Final, were today handed a home tie with Shaw Lane Aquaforce of the Northern Counties East League.
The Vase holders, Sholing from Hampshire, were promoted last season and now play in The Trophy.
Whitley, four-time Vase winners, travel to Congleton Town. There is a ‘Peterborough derby’ with Sports at home to Northern Star, Wembley entertain Brantham Athletic in the shadow of the famous Stadium and Eastbourne United – Semi-Finalists last time – welcome Horley Town to The Oval, a stone’s throw from the beach.
Greenwich Borough, the Southern Counties East League club who came close to an appearance in The FA Cup’s First Round Proper, face a Vase trip to the winners of Wednesday’s replay between Crawley Down Gatwick and Fisher, the latter having scored last-gasp equalisers in both normal time and extra time to draw 2-2 yesterday.
