Baily Cargill celebrated his England U20s call-up last week
AFC Bournemouth youngster Baily Cargill faces the double bonus of making his England bow on home turf this week.

The Cherries defender was called into Aidy Boothroyd’s U20s squad last week, after catching the eye with his performances during the Championship club’s League Cup run this season.

And the 19-year-old will be on familiar ground on Wednesday evening as the Young Lions face Canada at Bournemouth's Goldsands Stadium, where he hopes to make his international debut in front of a home crowd.

"I can’t wait for the experience to be able to pull on an England shirt – it’s a great honour," he told TheFA.com, in a joint interview with fellow Bournemouth player and Under-21s’ striker Callum Wilson.

"It’s at Bournemouth, so that’s only down the road from me in Southampton so all of my family can come.

"And I’m sure my family can help put a few more on the gate too."

Cargill admits the call-up came as something of a surprise for him too, having only really broke into Eddie Howe’s squad at Bournemouth this season following loan spells with Torquay United, Welling United and AFC Totton.

But the Winchester-born central defender has featured in their four League Cup victories over West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City, Northampton Town and Exeter City.

And despite helping the Dorset outfit into the later stages of that competition, Cargill says he was still lost for words at news of his England call-up.

"I was speechless to be honest, it’s an amazing feeling to be recognised," he admitted.

"I’d only spoken to my family about it, imagining that it could happen but I didn’t know until the gaffer Eddie Howe pulled me after training on Thursday to let me know.

"It’s been a great experience so far, I met a few of the lads on Sunday night and they’ve all been really good with me.

"We had a double [training] session today, which was brilliant and I really like Aidy.

"It’s been really relaxed so far, but the players are brilliant and there’s some top, top players in the age group.

"I’m still improving myself, so I’m just trying to do as much as I can and hopefully Aidy can help me with that."
