Ibhadon set to 'drag' Eton Manor through in FA Vase

Emmanuel Ibhadon has pledged to help “drag” his Eton Manor side into the next round of The FA Vase – and move a step closer to his Wembley dream.

The Essex Senior League Premier Division strugglers travel to Stowmarket Town on Saturday on the back off a disappointing midweek 5-1 defeat to Takely.

Despite being a step below in the football pyramid, with their hosts flying high in the Eastern Counties Division One, 29-year-old Ibhadon knows his side will have to be at their best to avoid an upset.

He told TheFA.com: "We need to be very wary. They are going to give it their all, especially as we haven’t been doing too well.

"But we are a better team than the our results show so far, so we need to go there and give it everything, show what we are about and ensure we go into the next round.

"It wasn’t the best performance midweek but we had a few players out. We’ll have a lot more players back so hopefully we can regroup and put in a much better performance.

He continued: "We have a new manager this season and I still think we are gelling. We have played well in patches so far, but the spells where we haven’t played well have cost us. We need to get it together quickly and hopefully we can come good on Saturday."

The midfielder is one of the more experienced players at the club, and having experienced the impact of a good cup run earlier in his playing days, Ibhadon says it is up to him to ensure there are no slip-ups on Saturday and put a smile back on the faces of the Eton Manor faithful.

He added: "I joined from Boreham Wood last year. It’s a great family club with a good chairman and a nice little fan base as well. The squad is a good set of lads, with a lot of them from Essex, but we have a good mix.

"We have lads that have been pro, and a lot that where at clubs such as West Ham and Watford at 16 or 17 before being released, and all have the ability to do well."

"It would be fantastic to have a run in The Vase. For me personally, I’m one of the more experience players in the side so it’s up to the likes of myself to take responsibility and drag the team through.

"Back in 2003, I was at Halifax Town and we got to the Third Round of The FA Cup before losing to Doncaster Rovers on penalties. That’s when I was only young, and it was great to be involved and a part of that.

"I’ve also been involved in The FA Youth Cup too when I was a YTS at Newcastle, so I’ve had a taste of decent Cup runs – but I’ve never got as far as I’d have liked.

"Hopefully I can put that right in The Vase."

And when asked if he harbours hopes of going all the way, Ibhadon could not help but smile.

"Of course you dream of Wembley,” he admitted. “You want to play big teams, for the manager, chairman and supporters.

"But the first job is to concentrate on Saturday, focus on getting a result there and then it’s one step closer to The Final – which would be a dream come true if we made it."
